| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Don't move parenthesized lines to the left, even if that means they flow past the right margin. By default, BSD indent lines up statement continuation lines that are within parentheses so that they start just to the right of the preceding left parenthesis. However, traditionally, if that resulted in the continuation line extending to the right of the desired right margin, then indent would push it left just far enough to not overrun the margin, if it could do so without making the continuation line start to the left of the current statement indent. That makes for a weird mix of indentations unless one has been completely rigid about never violating the 80-column limit. This behavior has been pretty universally panned by Postgres developers. Hence, disable it with indent's new -lpl switch, so that parenthesized lines are always lined up with the preceding left paren. This patch is much less interesting than the first round of indent changes, but also bulkier, so I thought it best to separate the effects. * Generate fmgr prototypes automaticallyPeter Eisentraut2017-01-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | Gen_fmgrtab.pl creates a new file fmgrprotos.h, which contains prototypes for all functions registered in pg_proc.h. This avoids having to manually maintain these prototypes across a random variety of header files. It also automatically enforces a correct function signature, and since there are warnings about missing prototypes, it will detect functions that are defined but not registered in pg_proc.h (or otherwise used). * Add location field to DefElemPeter Eisentraut2016-09-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add a location field to the DefElem struct, used to parse many utility commands. Update various error messages to supply error position information. To propogate the error position information in a more systematic way, create a ParseState in standard_ProcessUtility() and pass that to interested functions implementing the utility commands. This seems better than passing the query string and then reassembling a parse state ad hoc, which violates the encapsulation of the ParseState type. * Allow aggregates to provide estimates of their transition state data size.Tom Lane2013-11-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Formerly the planner had a hard-wired rule of thumb for guessing the amount of space consumed by an aggregate function's transition state data. This estimate is critical to deciding whether it's OK to use hash aggregation, and in many situations the built-in estimate isn't very good. This patch adds a column to pg_aggregate wherein a per-aggregate estimate can be provided, overriding the planner's default, and infrastructure for setting the column via CREATE AGGREGATE. It may be that additional smarts will be required in future, perhaps even a per-aggregate estimation function. But this is already a step forward. This is extracted from a larger patch to improve the performance of numeric and int8 aggregates. I (tgl) thought it was worth reviewing and committing this infrastructure separately. In this commit, all built-in aggregates are given aggtransspace = 0, so no behavior should change. Hadi Moshayedi, reviewed by Pavel Stehule and Tomas Vondra

* Remove ancient downcasing code from procedural language operations.Robert Haas2011-11-17
| | | | | | | | | A very long time ago, language names were specified as literals rather than identifiers, so this code was added to do case-folding. But that style has ben deprecated for many years so this isn't needed any more. Language names will still be downcased when specified as unquoted identifiers, but quoted identifiers or the old style using string literals will be left as-is.

* Define a new, more extensible syntax for COPY options.Tom Lane2009-09-21
| | | | | | | | | This is intentionally similar to the recently revised syntax for EXPLAIN options, ie, (name value, ...). The old syntax is still supported for backwards compatibility, but we intend that any options added in future will be provided only in the new syntax. Robert Haas, Emmanuel Cecchet
* Extend EXPLAIN to allow generic options to be specified.Tom Lane2009-07-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The original syntax made it difficult to add options without making them into reserved words. This change parenthesizes the options to avoid that problem, and makes provision for an explicit (and perhaps non-Boolean) value for each option. The original syntax is still supported, but only for the two original options ANALYZE and VERBOSE. As a test case, add a COSTS option that can suppress the planner cost estimates. This may be useful for including EXPLAIN output in the regression tests, which are otherwise unable to cope with cross-platform variations in cost estimates. Robert Haas

* Code review for FILLFACTOR patch. Change WITH grammar as per earlierTom Lane2006-07-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | discussion (including making def_arg allow reserved words), add missed opt_definition for UNIQUE case. Put the reloptions support code in a less random place (I chose to make a new file access/common/reloptions.c). Eliminate header inclusion creep. Make the index options functions safely user-callable (seems like client apps might like to be able to test validity of options before trying to make an index). Reduce overhead for normal case with no options by allowing rd_options to be NULL. Fix some unmaintainably klugy code, including getting rid of Natts_pg_class_fixed at long last. Some stylistic cleanup too, and pay attention to keeping comments in sync with code. Documentation still needs work, though I did fix the omissions in catalogs.sgml and indexam.sgml.

* Improve parser so that we can show an error cursor position for errorsTom Lane2006-03-14
| | | | | | | | | | | during parse analysis, not only errors detected in the flex/bison stages. This is per my earlier proposal. This commit includes all the basic infrastructure, but locations are only tracked and reported for errors involving column references, function calls, and operators. More could be done later but this seems like a good set to start with. I've also moved the ReportSyntaxErrorPosition logic out of psql and into libpq, which should make it available to more people --- even within psql this is an improvement because warnings weren't handled by ReportSyntaxErrorPosition.

* Reimplement the linked list data structure used throughout the backend.Neil Conway2004-05-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the past, we used a 'Lispy' linked list implementation: a "list" was merely a pointer to the head node of the list. The problem with that design is that it makes lappend() and length() linear time. This patch fixes that problem (and others) by maintaining a count of the list length and a pointer to the tail node along with each head node pointer. A "list" is now a pointer to a structure containing some meta-data about the list; the head and tail pointers in that structure refer to ListCell structures that maintain the actual linked list of nodes. The function names of the list API have also been changed to, I hope, be more logically consistent. By default, the old function names are still available; they will be disabled-by-default once the rest of the tree has been updated to use the new API names.

* Solve the 'Turkish problem' with undesirable locale behavior for caseTom Lane2004-05-07

Remove all uses of strcasecmp and strncasecmp in favor of new functions pg_strcasecmp and pg_strncasecmp; remove most but not all direct uses of toupper and tolower in favor of pg_toupper and pg_tolower. These functions use the same notions of case folding already developed for identifier case conversion. I left the straight locale-based folding in place for situations where we are just manipulating user data and not trying to match it to built-in strings --- for example, the SQL upper() function is still locale dependent. Perhaps this will prove not to be what's wanted, but at the moment we can initdb and pass regression tests in Turkish locale.
