* Change float8-to-int8 conversion to round to nearest, rather thanTom Lane2001-01-26
| | | | | | | truncating to integer. Remove regress test that checks whether 4567890123456789 can be converted to float without loss; since that's 52 bits, it's on the hairy edge of failing with IEEE float8s, and indeed rint seems to give platform-dependent results for it.

* Add int2-vs-int8 comparison operators. These are now necessary becauseTom Lane2000-07-28
| | | | | | | the planner may try to generate them as a result of transitivity of the existing int2-vs-int4 and int4-vs-int8 operators. In fact, it is now necessary that mergejoinable cross-datatype operators form closed sets. Add an opr_sanity regress test to detect missing operators.

| | | | | | | | | | | we'll get there one day. Use `cat' to create aclocal.m4, not `aclocal'. Some people don't have automake installed. Only run the autoconf rule in the top-level GNUmakefile if the invoker specified `make configure', don't run it automatically because of CVS timestamp skew.

| | | | | | | key call sites are changed, but most called functions are still oldstyle. An exception is that the PL managers are updated (so, for example, NULL handling now behaves as expected in plperl and plpgsql functions). NOTE initdb is forced due to added column in pg_proc.

* Implement column aliases on views "CREATE VIEW name (collist)".Thomas G. Lockhart2000-03-14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implement TIME WITH TIME ZONE type (timetz internal type). Remap length() for character strings to CHAR_LENGTH() for SQL92 and to remove the ambiguity with geometric length() functions. Keep length() for character strings for backward compatibility. Shrink stored views by removing internal column name list from visible rte. Implement min(), max() for time and timetz data types. Implement conversion of TIME to INTERVAL. Implement abs(), mod(), fac() for the int8 data type. Rename some math functions to generic names: round(), sqrt(), cbrt(), pow(), etc. Rename NUMERIC power() function to pow(). Fix int2 factorial to calculate result in int4. Enhance the Oracle compatibility function translate() to work with string arguments (from Edwin Ramirez). Modify pg_proc system table to remove OID holes.

* Add routines to convert between int8 and text/varchar types.Thomas G. Lockhart1999-02-13

* Modify int8 to not depend on sscanf(), and fix configure's testTom Lane1999-02-03
| | | | | | | | | | for int8 support. configure now checks only snprintf() for int8 support, not sprintf and sscanf as it used to. The reason for doing this is that if we are supplying our own snprintf code (which does handle long long int), we now only need working long long support in the compiler not in the platform's C library. I have verified that int8 now passes regression test on HPUX 9, and I think it should work on SunOS 4.1.* and other older platforms if gcc is used.
