| | | | | | | | | | append_history(), if libreadline is new enough to have those functions (they seem to be present at least since 4.2; but libedit may not have them). This gives significantly saner behavior when two or more sessions overlap in their use of the history file; although having two sessions exit at just the same time is still perilous to your history. The behavior of \s remains unchanged, ie, overwrite whatever was there. Per bug #5052 from Marek Wójtowicz.

* Here's some changes I made last night to psql's common.c (as found inBruce Momjian2003-03-20
| | | | | | | | | 7.3.2). It removes some code duplication and #ifdeffing, and some unstructured ugliness such as tacky breaks and an unneeded continue. Breaks up a large function into smaller functions and reduces required nesting levels, and kills a variable or two. Jeroen T. Vermeulen

I fall back to pushing the query onto the history stack after the \e, rather than replacing it. The patch adds one more place to look for readline headers, and a test for replace_history_entry. I've only included the patch for configure.in Ross J. Reedstrom

* I've made a diff against the 7.0beta1 tree that accomplishes several things:Bruce Momjian2000-03-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1) adds NetBSD shared lib support on both ELF and a.out platforms 2) replaces "-L$(LIBPQDIR) -lpq" with "$(LIBPQ)" defined in Makefile.global. This makes it much easier to build stuff in the source tree after you've already installed the libraries. 3) adds TEMPLATEDIR in Makefile.global that indicates where the database templates are stored. This separates the template files from real libraries that are installed in $(LIBDIR). 4) changes include order of <readline/readline.h> and <readline.h>. The latest GNU readline installs its headers under a readline subdirectory. In addition to applying the patch below the following files need to be copied: backend/port/dynloader: bsd.h -> netbsd.h bsd.c -> netbsd.c include/port: bsd.h -> netbsd.h makefiles: Makefile.bsd -> Makefile.netbsd It would be great to see this incorporated into the source tree before the 7.0 release is cut. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | rate it's better than what used to be there. * Does proper SQL "host variable" substitution as pointed out by Andreas Zeugwetter (thanks): select * from :foo; Also some changes in how ':' and ';' are treated (escape with \ to send to backend). This does _not_ affect the '::' cast operator, but perhaps others that contain : or ; (but there are none right now). * To show description with a <something> listing, append '?' to command name, e.g., \df?. This seemed to be the convenient and logical solution. Or append a '+' to see more useless information, e.g., \df+. * Fixed fflush()'ing bug pointed out by Jan during the regression test discussion. * Added LastOid variable. This ought to take care of TODO item "Add a function to return the last inserted oid, for use in psql scripts" (under CLIENTS) E.g., insert into foo values(...); insert into bar values(..., :LastOid); \echo $LastOid * \d command shows constraints, rules, and triggers defined on the table (in addition to indices) * Various fixes, optimizations, corrections * Documentation update as well Note: This now requires snprintf(), which, if necessary, is taken from src/backend/port. This is certainly a little weird, but it should suffice until a source tree cleanup is done. Enjoy. -- Peter Eisentraut Sernanders väg 10:115
